Hey guys,

Sorry for being such a difficult person the past few weeks, I know sometimes communication is tough, but we got over it and we're here today, tomorrow as our Assessment date. Though if we do get an opportunity to perform during the Drama Fest, we'll work our play up to a higher level of standard and we'll get our hands ready to clinch more prizes!

Jiayous tomorrow, let's pump it up to our best level, we've got 9 talented actors here (I quote Rachel) yeah, so we'll be the most brilliant group ever (haha sorry ego). Thank you for allowing me to direct certain scenes and put forth my opinions on that. Working with you guys was really an amazing experience, albeit there were disputes among us, I think it's time we cultivate synergy and work together as a crew on stage. Like my 老公 said, we'll rock the stage up. We're not impeccable, but we'll give it our best shot.

I was just thinking, i would be doing most of the back stage stuff (lights and sounds) since i only like have what, 3 LINES (??!!?! SINCE WHEN DID THE THERAPIST HAVE SO FEW LINES). Everyone, please be reminded to bring all the stuff you need to bring!

Hello, the title makes everything rather self-explanatory so I wouldn't elaborate much.
I'll be bringing:

(Sorry I've got zero fake food, and I can't simply bring a bowl of 云吞面 up or something right.)

(Yes it should be formal because I've gotten it passed by my friends and my Mom and Aunt who both works. But Lydia please bring, just in case.)

I almost died reading that. anyways, reminder to all to bring props by Tuesday, just in case you forget to bring on actual day or we cant accept the props. So no excuse saying that you have to bring alot of clothes so cant bring the props. And does phoebe know she has to bring fake food?? She can always bring real ones, but jasmine and joei have to resist the temptation to eat it at 4th level.
Lydia's makeup will be like really formal..I thought I said it brfore? but nevermind. haha. It's like eyeshadow blue or green. preferably blue. the other colour will be for phoebe. Or phoebe can have light brown like close to skin colour kind. They can choose but we have to see how they look in the end. Lipstick is red, not too bright or dark. preferably on the light side. Phoebe's will be on the dark side. CAN PHOEBE BRING DARK RED LIPSTICK PLEASE? I doubt dancers will have..And what is phoebe's age in the play? 30++? 40++? near 50?

for the music right, other than the music in the last scene while the voice over is read, do uall still want any music anywhere else?
i think the dengdengdengdeng music (beethoven symphony 5) when phoebe finds out about the affair will have a comical effect?

i think the phone for the phone ringing part phoebe should really call me so that there wont be situations whereby the music doesnt coordinate or something. i wont pick up the call so no money will be wasted?

AWESOME MAKEUP!!!! i think we can do the first goth one. If cant do think enough we can try second. but second one eyeliner have to perfect or will look like we are gonna perform dance._. the last one should be for racha and shanna? and shanna uses charlene's eyeliner cos that one easier to smudge. Shanna can tear a bit then rub it down. lol. but it may not look like eye bags. May just look like the Katy Perry crying in hot n cold mv...have to experiment.
And are we still using torch lights for lighting?? if it shines into ppl's eyes will be very pain. but it's really good spot light yes? We have seen the lighting in drama room and erm.. really not good. Everyone bring one if we using it. then those not on scene dont pancake, but instead shine torch from the audience.

i think first one nicer.

and easier to be done. ofcourse, brown shadowing has to be done, and the heavy liner may not achieve max effect as has to draw at the corners. blush can be the pink from charlene or the pink from apolo.

fresher looking makeup for me so basically nude tones, with slightly white, or brown to the lips and nude gloss. blusher can be the one used for apolo. the orange one.

Sarah's best friend ( Rachel) is wearing yellow tank and pink shorts if I am not wrong, to bring our the happier, optimistic side of her.
And Bianca (Chang) is also wearing Lydia's leather jacket.

Make-up for rach and shanna will be little as possible. but more blush on rach. then shanna might have to mess hair up towards the end. Bimbos having gothic? makeup. (right?) im better at that XD Phoebe needs alot of eyeshadow, etc. Joei too but diff. colour. Jasmine just foundation a bit??

Actually this isn't a serious commentary, but just a remark made based on observations.

I've learnt something from Debates, and that refers to Mental Illness. There is a spectrum of mental illnesses that can occur, from mild depression to serious insanity that necessitates the restriction of people in straitjackets. So I thought it would be imperative to actually set different notches as Sarah's illness deteriorates.

I think one thing we can do is to establish specific symptoms Shanna can display in each scene while acting in her character. That way, it would be more obvious her mental illness has exacerbated throughout each scene, not just that she is pretending to be crazy. I thought this would be important, because it is very relevant to characterising Sarah and her role in the play. Also, I thought initial things that could happen before the hallucination is Shanna meandering around the stage, mumbling incoherent words to herself and maybe trembling as well. This would amplify that she is showing signs of mental instability, which would then further lead to her mental illness.

I think Shanna has done an excellent job of portraying a person suffering from a 'severe' kind of mental illness, but I thought it could be a process of getting 'crazier' and 'crazier' rather than just put forth the same insane character throughout every scene. This means that the hallucination could be something mild, the taunting of Sarah could make her somewhat insane, and when she confronts Rachel I think Shanna could end up, instead of saying "oh what have I done" (remember that Sarah is getting less and less lucid), muttering "I don't know" to herself or something to show that she is losing lucidity. A near complete insanity could be shown in the therapy session, and a full-blown one in the monologue/dialogue scene comprising of Charmaine and Rachel. However, even though I used 'full-blown', be careful to not do things which shifts the audience's focus from Charmaine and Rachel to Shanna. The similar thing should apply to the last scene with the disembodied voice.

Yup, just some points to take note of.

(A) Costumes

(B) Scenes
The play has been completed, with 7 scenes and the climax being the Hallucination.

• Scene 6
Tiffany and Sarah's good friend meets up after Sarah's therapy session, and they confer about Sarah's predicament, at the same time accentuating the theme "Broken", which is also the title of our play. Using oxymorons, grave dialougue (at first) and monologues (slowly it transits into one), it portrays Sarah's drastic conditions primarily, but also signifies the strong friendship between Sarah and her friend as well as Tiffany's heart to change.

• Scene 7
There is a blackout in the transition of Scene 6 to Scene 7.
Scene 7 begins with the portrayal of Sarah endeavouring to stand up, but fails and she falls. Her good friend rushes in to help her, and they 'play' with toys in such a way to show concern for Sarah - now in such a dreadful condition she can hardly recognise or identify people, and she holds the mentality of a 5 year old. A disembodied voice (Phoebe) then starts, and it shows guidance and care for Sarah.

The lines are as follows.
A broken doll. She falls, we pick her up. She falls once more, and we pick her up again.
And we set her on her feet.
(pause)
Everytime I look at Sarah, it makes me want to cry. She is now trapped in her own world, her own dreams, and it was the real world that made her this way. But I will not give up.
I believe there is hope, and there is light, and that someday, she will recover. But
until then, I will support her and be by her side forever, and ever, and ever...

(C) Technical Details
We have not yet decided on much techinical details yet, but the exact scene transition to utilise the blackout has been confirmed. There will probably be contemporary music used in scenes involving Sarah's school adversaries and classical, melancholy melodies played softly in the background of the hallucination scene and the last scene. Music used can either be downloaded from the Internet or used from available CDs.

(D) Script
The script has been written, but not finalised and printed.
Playwrights were originally in charge of the script, but as the script is currently with our Director, it will not be possible for the script to be printed and ready by end of holiday.

Hey guys,

No, Lydia, you're not very domineering. It's cool with me.
Right, so I've something to tell you guys too - I've switched production roles with Charmaine to become a Director and she one of the Playrights.

Okay another things I've noticed about the play, is the issue pertaining to a schizophrenic. The main character is supposed to be mentally unstable, so whatever that is portrayed of her should be chilling and haunting, somehow like the building up of intense and overwhelming feeling, not explosions of emotion. Perhaps this should be taken note of. Also, yes I agree there is an inherent problem with scene transition, especially from Scene 1 where I find my husband and his mistress to Scene 2, as well as the hallucination scene. What I am suggesting is that we could have characters leave the stage instead of immediate transition.

In addition, I thought there is not enough characterisation of each figure, and I thought it would be important to accentuate each character's personality, so perhaps we could work on that as well. Oh and Mdm O told me we need a short brief introduction for each play, not longer than 3 minutes, but don't worry, I've got that part worked out already and I'll show you guys as soon as possible.

Lydia, haha I really wanna meet at your house if possible, but the point is that, you know, I can't find a possible mean of transport. Is your house near an MRT station or something? Otherwise, I think there'll be a way of booking the Drama Room in school, I can call Mr. Nick Ng okay. It's not confirmed, but I'll get back to you guys soon.

Hello everyone! Since Rachel wasnt here during drama, then i'd update yall on what happened today! Firstly we rehearsed our freeze frames and transitions. So now can you all reply in the tagboard on when we can meet up regularly so we can quicken our pace and catch up with the rest of the classes since we missed quite a number of drama lessons. I'd say every alternate lunch? Is that okay? Feel free to comment yeah?

Chang, Charlene and Rach:
We added in a classroom freeze frame. And the transition would be us (as classmates) finding out and gossipping about our main character's parents' divorce case. Oh okay, Chang and Charlene, Charmaine acted out your roles just now so should there be anything we've added for you, you can go find her. And Rach, Phoebe took over your role during drama so yeah you should know who to go for in case you need confirmation of lines.

Another thing to mention, I recalled Mr. Ng telling us that it is not obvious as to my and Jasmines' relationship to Lydia, and this is inherently a flaw since we're her parents and the cause of her misery.

So yeah, I was thinking, do you want to insert a scene or two representing a 'family scenario' sort of thing (the scenes I suggest to be the past-present type, where we could show a happy family, then presently a family torn apart where the ambience/atmosphere is foreboding, tense and miserable)?

Anyway, during drama lesson today we completed 2 picture frames. The second one still needs to be refined, but i guess the first one should be good enough CAUSE MR NG SAID IT WAS GOOD:D We are supposed to post our lines right?

Here are my lines for frame 1,
After Charmaine and Charlene antagonizes and mocks at me: I AM NOT A LOSER!
Then I'll point at Rachel and say: She betrayed me.

As for Frame 2,
its the same but there are some lines added.
I grab Chang Jie Lin's hand, and go like: Mummy needs me right?
Chang goes eww and when the 3 bitches walk off i go crazy on my own.

And one last thing, Lydia was suggesting having 2 schizos, one with a good personality, and the other with a bad personality (Same character, 2 people acting as 1), like last year's 2/3 08' choral and drama night's performance. What do yall think? Comment okay? :D

OMG OMG this is my FIRST POST ON A BLOG IN MY LIFE! I SHOULD REALLY CELEBRATE.. anyways, I'd rather introduce more variety of characters. This is like a school life thing and alot, actually all but two of our characters are of the same gender and age. Anyway, I'm not very certain of the plot skeleton, but Shanna has updated me already, so thanks much. I thought Shanna's suggestion on more characters is a good one, since we need involvement from everyone in this group. Also, I put forth my suggestion that there should be certain one-person scenes to show how this character is haunted. It could be a mute scene where a diary entry is read, which brings me to my next point.

If you guys want to end with a diary scene, it should be that the protagonist has consistantly been confiding in her diaries. So I was thinking along the lines about interception of the play here and then to recite the diary entries? It could be possible, and it would show development, because otherwise I think it's strange to end with a diary entry when the protagonist doesn't even write. Unless you guys want a letter? That would be different.

Yup, and lastly, I was thinking that I'd be interested to read the diary entries, if none of you objects to it of course. Reply soon(:
